Some Atom owners have complained of excessively vibrating front wings or even catastrophic failure where the wing has become detached from the bracket or fractured at the fixing points. So we thought it was about time to have a look at the problem and get our thinking caps on. You might have noticed this yourself; if not, have a look at how yours flexes at high speed – a lot of people aren’t even aware that this is an issue, but it can cause damage under certain conditions. The solution we developed was a complete redesign of the mounting brackets:

 

 

By adding horizontal steel rods that extend into the body (and connecting both vertical brackets to the steel rods) and then fusing this assembly within the carbon fibre, we’ve managed to increase the torsional stiffness, thereby greatly reducing the amount of flex at the point where the brackets fix into the wing. The brackets are no longer able to flex independently of each other and the rods help to further stabilise the wing overall by redistributing the stress throughout the frame! The bracket has also been completely redesigned to allow for three different heights, so for track use, they can be mounted closer to the floor and for road use where you may have to go over speed bumps, the wing can be fixed in a higher position.
